Local Art Seen: Ineke Grounds' Bloom at the Red Mug

Featured artist for the month of January at the Red Mug is Ineke Grounds. There were three themes most noticeable in her work: poppies, faces and Turkish tiles. Two of the three serve as clues. Ms. Grounds grew up in Turkey, the daughter of missionaries there. Grounds said she tends to obsess on topics and frequently returns to memories of her childhood. The poppies have a nostalgic connection for the young artist, and the Turkish tiles reflect market designs. Faces are fascinating simply because they can be so expressive.

The unpretentious work is worth seeing. Take a lunch or coffee break at the Red Mug during the month of January to enjoy her paintings firsthand.

Meantime... art goes on all around you. Engage it.
