Duluth Does Dylan CD Release Concert and Other Music You Can Catch During Dylan Fest

Here's a press release about yet another of the events taking place here during Duluth Dylan Fest 2016. The good news is that the concert/party starts at 7:30 and runs till 10:00. Much of the music scene caters to later hours, which can be challenging if you work the day shift.

On Tues., May 24th people around the world will celebrate Bob Dylan’s 75th birthday. The town where he was born, Duluth, Minn., will be no exception. In what will be part of a week-long celebration of the musician, the Bringing It All Back To Duluth Does Dylan CD Release show and Bob Dylan 75th Birthday Party will take place at the Fitger's Rex, 600 E Superior St, Duluth, MN 55802. The event will feature Duluth-area musicians performing the songs of Bob Dylan.


The evening will be hosted by Master of Ceremonies Magic Marc Percansky. Duluth Mayor Emily Larson will be making a City of Duluth Proclamation, naming it “Duluth Dylan Fest’s Duluth Does Dylan Day” in Duluth. KUMD’s Highway 61 Revisited Radio Show host John Bushey, who's celebrating 25 years of broadcasting the program, will be the evening’s guest of honor.

Musical acts committed to performing at the event so far include Black-eyed Snakes, Erik Berry of Trampled By Turtles, Erik Koskinen, Shaunna Heckman, Ballyhoo, James Moors, Timothy Martin & The New Norm, Hattie Peterson, Superior Siren, Feeding Leroy, Sarah Kreuger, Tin Can Gin, The Social Disaster, The Boomchucks, Murder of Crows, and The Weary Tunesmiths (Mimi Parker of Low, Tim Saxhaug of Trampled By Turtles, Rich Mattson, Marc Gartman, and Germaine Gemberling).

Every five years since 2001, Tom Fabjance and Tim Nelson have released a compilation album featuring Duluth musicians paying homage to their native son, Bob Dylan. In total, the project has netted 60 Bob Dylan songs performed by 60 musical acts. This year’s event will feature acts from all four Duluth Does Dylan-series recordings.

There will be many other events next week featuring great live music. Cowboy Angel Blue will be playing at Karpeles after Wednesday's Poets of the Northland event at the Underground. Thursday the Blood on the Tracks Express will be once again take the North Shore Railway yo Two Harbors, an event that has repeatedly sold out. Don't wait till the last minute to get tickets. They've been selling out the past several years.

Friday the 27th will be the Singer/Songwriter Contest, which is always a favorite. Starts at 7 p.m. and it's free. A great panel of judges and a lot of fun as performers present a Dylan tune and a composition of their own.

Saturday night it's the annual Armory Arts and Music Center Benefit Concert at Sacred Heart. This is a ticketed event, a fund raiser and awareness raiser for the Armory, now 100 years young. It used to be the kickoff event for Dylan Fest but is now coronates the end of the week. Tickets here.

Sunday morning, coming down... Gather with friends for a farewell brunch with music at Zeitgeist Cafe.


If you're still in the mood for more music, Memorial Day Weekend is the annual Battle of the Jugbands at Amazing Grace in Canal Park's DeWitt-Seitz Building.
