In mid-December I received notice of a call for writers to submit 100 word stories for an anthology celebrating Valentine's Day. The call for Speculative St. Valentine's Day Drabbles was interesting for a several reasons. First, the commitment to submit a piece with such very specific requirements: stories of one hundred words, no more and no less. Second, because in dscribing what they were looking for they used the word "spooky" twice. Do I really have to be spooky? Third, because the word "drabbles" is so unusual that it required my having to peek at a dictionary, which signified its meaning as follows: to draggle; make or become wet and dirty.
For what it's worth, here's the call, and if so inclined you still have time to submit. January 25 is the deadline.
SUBMISSIONS CALL

We love St. Valentine's Day, and we love stories about spooky goings-on, high adventure, and all things literary speculative. So why not combine our love for all and publish an anthology on February 1, 2015 with stories that involve romance and speculative doings in one way or another?
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR:
We are looking for exceptionally well written stories BUT they can be spooky, ooky, silly, whatever, just as long as they're romantic. The stories can be humorous, enthralling, spooky... Capture the spirit of the holiday!
ALL GENRES ACCEPTED – DO YOU HAVE A STORY THAT IS A MISHMASH OF GENRES AND HAS A ROMANTIC FEEL TO IT? WE WANT IT!
ALL SUBMISSIONS SHOULD:

PAYMENT:
There isn't any. This is for the love, for the glory, and for the easy Amazon Author Page credit! Heck, we're only using any and all profits from this venture to secure more ISBNs for more future projects...

The anthology will be edited by Roy C. Booth and Jorge Salgado-Reyes. The editors have sole discretion regarding which submissions will be included in the anthology, their decision is final. Please do not resubmit a rejected submission as it will be rejected unseen without further consideration. We are looking forward to receiving your drabbles!
